Racial and Religious Discrimination
Donald Trump
What is Discrimination ?
Discrimination is the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex.
My English project is is based on Donald Trump and how he discriminates against many racial and religious groups. Although he stills considers himself
one of the most non racist people you would ever meet.
There has been many examples throughout the last 40 years of Trump showing racial and religious discrimination. Here are a few examples
1973: The DOJ sues Trump for housing discrimination
Ironically, the very first time Trump appeared in the New York Times's pages was because he was being sued for racial discrimination. In 1973, the Trump Management Corporation run by 27-year-old Donald Trump was sued by the Department of Justice for violating the Fair Housing Act. Specifically, Trump's company was accused of refusing to rent to or negotiate with black tenants, changing the terms of leases based on race, and lying to black applicants about whether apartments were available.
1989: Trump on the Central Park Five: "They should be forced to suffer”
In April 1989, There was case in New York where a woman who was out on a run brutally assaulted and raped. Five black teenagers the "Central Park Five" were almost immediately arrested, and confessions obtained.
Less than two weeks after the assault, Donald Trump ran an ad in New York City papers with the blaring headline "BRING BACK THE DEATH PENALTY. BRING BACK OUR POLICE!”. He then said "I want to hate these muggers and murderers," "They should be forced to suffer and, when they kill, they should be executed for their crimes."
2004: Trump fires a black Apprentice contestant for being”overeducated”
In season two of The Apprentice, contestant Kevin Allen, who holds degrees from Wharton Business School, Emory, and the University of Chicago, was fired from the show because he was overeducated
2011: Donald Trump, Obama college admission
The last time Donald Trump got involved with a presidential run, in 2011, he spent a lot of his time implying that President Obama wasn't born in the US. He also claimed that Obama wasn't a good enough student to have gotten into Columbia for college or Harvard Law School and demanded as well as releasing the birth certificate Obama should release his university transcripts.
Trump on Muslims: ‘They’re not coming to this country if I’m president’
In a debate that focused on national security the businessman said his anti-Muslim policy and building a wall along the Mexican border, would make America safer. Trump went on to say: "They're not coming to this country if I'm president. And if Obama has brought some to this country they are leaving, they're going, they're gone."
In 2015 Donald Trump announced that he was going to be running for president and since then he has gained popularity and has made some outrageous promises and for some reason people support him on this.
Trump has said that if he becomes president he will build a wall between the United States and Mexico to keep all the Mexicans out of America. At one of his rally’s he told everyone how he called someone in Mexico who he thinks was probable the president and told him that Mexico would have to pay for this wall he said he would build. Obviously Mexico refused and Trump responded by saying that the wall just got 10 feet higher. Trump also said this in the past “We have to have a wall. We have to have a border. And in that wall we’re going to have a big fat door where people can come into the country, but they have to come in legally.”
“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best, they’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people. From these examples from the past it is clear that Donald Trump is a racist but doesn't necessarily see anything wrong with what he does, he doesn't see how he is being racist, as he once said "I am the least racist person there is”.
